Special Meeting 17th September 2022

This is the piece we used to explain more about the Special Day

We have organised a splendid day out for members of the CH Lodge, their families and friends, and other masonic and non-masonic guests. One or two items are still being wrapped up and may be subject to change, but we hope not. By not starting the programme at the crack of dawn we hope most people will be able to travel to Horsham and back in a day, though some of us will no doubt be staying locally on Friday and/or Saturday night.

We will start with Registration at Reception, with Tea & Coffee in the Mellstrom Careers Centre (“Old” Library) which will run from 10:00 to 10:45am. Knowledgeable folk will be on hand to answer questions about the day.

At 10:45 am we will be welcomed to the School by the Headmaster, Mr. Simon Reid.  In the time between 11:00 am and lunch we have a number of other stimulating and enjoyable things planned:

  • A chance to visit the School Museum.  There is a treasure trove of CH history with carefully curated artifacts, and specifically a section devoted to the CH Lodge and its history.  Thanks to the generosity of WBro Tony Barrett, there is also a display (including a model railway) about the Schools Class locomotive "Christ's Hospital", the nameplate of which is prominently featured.
  • Alternatively an opportunity to take a tour of the network of underground tunnels at the School (the "Tube"), guided by experts with intimate knowledge of its dark and sometimes damp corners.
  • Band Parade (the WOW moment), from an exclusive standpoint outside the Court Room.

Lunch in the Court Room will be an informal, even casual affair, but there will be three courses and a selection of wine and soft drinks. There will be a presentation of Grand Lodge Certificates to two of the Lodge's recent Master Masons, and maybe a toast or two at the end. We will sort out tables and groups nearer the time.

After Lunch there will be an Music Recital by School students, back at the Mellstrom Centre, or a chance to support CH teams on the playing fields, This will be followed by Tea and Cake, with an informal talk about the Lodge Bursary, given by Antonia Coleman-Harvey, a recent recipient, and a pitch for the Lodge's Donation Governorship initiative, by WBro Tony Barrett.  There will also be a chance to students and staff in attendance to hear a few remarks about Freemasonry, for girls as well as boys.  Then good-byes.

All this for just £45 per person. We hope you are tempted to join our Special Meeting.

“It will be a tremendous day” (promises Dom).

Christ's Hospital is about 2 miles SW of Horsham.
